Yes. All patients are informed over the phone in advance of their first visit that they may be offered injections if necessary.
The only way to administer a nerve block is with a needle. In order to receive this type of treatment you have to put your fear aside.
Fear of needles is a common condition. In North America about ten percent of the population has a fear of needles. If you are afraid of needles you are not alone. In general, people who do not have a fear of needles do not find the injection process enjoyable. They simply see it as a required part of the medical process.
If your fear of needles causes you to avoid medical procedures that are important to your personal health and the public health, then you are putting yourself and others at risk. Many people will avoid required immunizations and other important medical procedures due to a fear of needles. This can lead to personal illness and create health risks for people around them. People with this level of fear may have a specific phobia referred to as Belonephobia. It is wise to have your family doctor refer you to a therapist to help you overcome your fear of needles.
Friends and relatives are not allowed to be in the O.R. during the treatment process.
