Contact the Clinic

If the patient is ready to come to the clinic, what is the first step?

The patient’s doctor must send us a referral. Have their doctor forward a referral form to us along with their medical information. Once we are ready to see the patient we will contact the patient directly. If you have power of attorney, you may advise the referring doctor to list you as the primary contact, in which case we will contact you directly.

How should we plan in advance of the appointment?

Confirm that the referring doctor has faxed or mailed all the relevant medical records (blood work, CT scan, MRI reports, X-Ray reports, and consult reports from other specialists) to the Rothbart Centre prior to the appointment. It is not necessary to bring films or CD’s to the appointment. We only require the typed results of these tests.

If you have access to medical records that were not sent by the referring doctor, please bring them to the first appointment and give them to the receptionist when checking in.

If you have access to a car and are a licensed driver, be prepared to drive the patient to the clinic.

Have the patient’s medication, or a list of their medications including dosages, ready to bring with you to the appointment. Most pharmacies can provide a printout of all the relevant information at your request.

Be prepared to spend a lot of time at the clinic. Don’t schedule other commitments immediately following the appointment, as fasting and receiving treatments and medications requires appropriate time for recovery. You may end up spending most of the day at the clinic.

Have the patient’s health card, or equivalent proof of health coverage, ready to show the receptionist.

Be prepared to offer comfort and support to the patient as they await and proceed through treatment.
