Once the treatment is complete, you must remain in the recovery room until the nurse declares that it is safe for you to leave the clinic. This wait can be as short as twenty minutes, however, if there are any complications from the treatment, you must wait until the nurse declares that it is safe to leave. Please do not schedule any activities directly following the appointment.
Driving/Getting Home From the Clinic
It is always best to bring along a friend or family member to drive you home following any pain management treatment. Some of the medications adminstered during diagnosis or treatment may leave you in a condition that makes travel difficult. If you have received treatment or medication that could impair you, you will not be allowed to drive home. The Rothbart Centre has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to impaired driving.
Ask the doctor about the side effects of any medication that is administered during treatment or that you are currently taking, and about any side effects that may arise from combinations of drugs and or alcohol.
Follow-up visits to the clinic will be the similar to your first visit, with a few changes. Upon arrival, you will check in with a receptionist and will be asked to fill out some paperwork. This paperwork will be far less extensive than at the first visit. You will need to complete a pain inventory sheet at each visit. The doctor will use this pain inventory sheet to track any changes to your pain levels or locations.
If it has been more than six months since your last visit to the clinic, you must obtain a new referral from your doctor and fill out a new paperwork package.
